About
Vanquish (2010) is a fast-paced action shooter that stands out for its unique mobility-focused gameplay. You play as Sam Gideon, an elite soldier equipped with an advanced Augmented Reaction Suit that grants special abilities like AR mode for tactical awareness. The game combines intense gunplay with hand-to-hand combat in a way that emphasizes speed and verticality, making it a distinctive entry in the action genre that's held up remarkably well over the years.
On the performance side, Vanquish is quite accessible by modern standards and won't demand a high-end GPU to run smoothly. The game runs comfortably on mid-range hardware from the last several generations, and you can expect solid FPS performance even on entry-level graphics cards. A GTX 1050 or equivalent will handle high graphics settings with ease, and the benchmark performance remains stable across various resolutions, making it ideal for testing older or budget-oriented gaming rigs.
If you enjoy action-heavy gameplay with a unique mechanical twist, Vanquish is worth playing despite its 79/100 rating. The game's stylish combat system and breakneck pacing deliver an entertaining experience that action fans will appreciate, even if it's not considered a critical masterpiece.
Performance profile
October 2010 release. Vanquish targets mid-2000s-to-early-2010s hardware — any modern entry-level GPU (GTX 1650 tier or newer integrated graphics) handles it at 1080p Ultra without breaking a sweat.
Action titles like Vanquish reward high framerates for visual clarity during combat. A mid-range modern GPU at 1440p 60–120 FPS is the practical sweet spot; VRR (G-Sync/FreeSync) smooths out drops during heavy effects.
Extremely light — Vanquish runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.
Storyline
Since the late 20th century, the precipitous pace of population rise on Earth pushed the total number of humans on the planet past 10 billion. The lack of consumable food and energy for this expanding population led to numerous wars over depleting natural resources. It was in this period of fear, uncertainty, and doubt that America placed her hopes in the skies with the SC-01 Providence space colony. The colony was not immune to social evils that had become prevalent on earth. The Order of the Russian Star, a faction of the Russian military who had taken power in their homeland via coup d’état, immediately launched a surprise invasion of the colony. They began work converting the microwave energy array into a powerful weapon in the skies, then unleashed this fearsome power upon the residents of San Francisco. The Order’s declaration of war via weapon of mass destruction complete, they demanded the unconditional surrender of the United States within 10 hours, under penalty of the destruction of New York City. In steadfast refusal to cooperate with aggressors, the President had no choice but to order a military strike to annihilate the invaders and recapture the colony. The strike was to be led by Lt. Col. Robert Burns. DARPA operative Sam Gideon has also been assigned to the mission with an advanced weapons prototype.
