About

World of Tanks launched in 2011 as a free-to-play team-based military shooter that lets you command historical tanks across diverse battlefields. The game blends strategic gameplay with fast-paced action, featuring an ever-expanding arsenal of vehicles, detailed graphics, and immersive orchestral soundtracks. It's carved out a lasting place in competitive online gaming thanks to its unique tank warfare mechanics and consistently updated content.

World of Tanks is quite accessible from a performance standpoint, making it a solid benchmark title for entry-level systems. You'll need at minimum an entry-level GPU with a score around 1992 and a CPU score near 41, plus 4 GB RAM. Even modest hardware can achieve smooth 60+ FPS at medium graphics settings, though mid-range GPUs will comfortably handle high settings at 1080p with excellent frame rates for competitive play.

If you enjoy multiplayer shooters with a strategic edge and don't mind the free-to-play model, World of Tanks is worth trying. With a solid 76/100 rating and a dedicated global community, it offers hundreds of hours of content without requiring a high-end PC to enjoy.

Performance profile

April 2011 release. World of Tanks targets mid-2000s-to-early-2010s hardware — any modern entry-level GPU (GTX 1650 tier or newer integrated graphics) handles it at 1080p Ultra without breaking a sweat.

Simulation titles like World of Tanks are heavily CPU-dependent — physics, AI and world state dominate the frame budget. Prioritise a CPU with strong single-thread performance and fast RAM over raw GPU power.

Extremely light — World of Tanks runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

The player takes control of a single armored vehicle of his or her choosing, and is placed into a battle on a random map. The player has control over the vehicle's movement, firing, and can communicate with other players through typed or voice chat, and several preset actions that give tactical instructions visible to only their team. The methods used to win a match are either destroying all vehicles on the opposing team or capturing a base present in some game modes. World of Tanks contains multiple game mechanics such as camouflage, shell ricochets, and module damage.
