About

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (2015) is a stealth-action game that serves as a prequel to the original Metal Gear series. The game retains the stealth-focused mechanics from its predecessor Ground Zeroes while streamlining the notorious cutscene-heavy storytelling the franchise is known for. With an 85/100 rating, it remains a standout title in the action-adventure genre for its open-world approach to tactical gameplay.

The game is quite accessible on modern PC hardware, making it ideal for benchmark testing across various GPU tiers. Entry-level graphics cards with a benchmark score around 1759 can handle minimum requirements at playable FPS, while mid-range GPUs will easily deliver smooth performance at higher graphics settings. With only 4GB RAM minimum and modest CPU demands, Metal Gear Solid V scales well across different hardware configurations, allowing you to test performance across a wide range of systems.

If you enjoy stealth gameplay and tactical action sequences, Metal Gear Solid V is absolutely worth playing. Its combination of refined mechanics and accessible performance requirements makes it an excellent choice for both gaming and performance benchmarking.

Performance profile

Released in September 2015, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain sits in the DirectX 11 generation. Comfortable on any modern mid-range GPU at 1440p; even an RTX 3050 or RX 6600 typically delivers 4K60 at High settings.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is a narrative-driven experience — a rock-solid 60 FPS is plenty. Prioritise resolution and image quality (AA, anisotropic filtering) over chasing high-refresh framerates.

Extremely light — Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain runs at 60 FPS 1080p on any integrated GPU (Intel Iris Xe, AMD Radeon Graphics) or a decade-old discrete card like the GTX 1050. A current-gen RTX 4060 pushes 4K Ultra without effort.

Storyline

The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan has brought a new edge to the Cold War, and in 1984, a one-eyed man with a prosthetic arm appears in the country. Those who know him call him Snake; the legendary mercenary who was once swept from the stage of history and left in a coma by American private intelligence network Cipher. Snake is accompanied by Ocelot, an old friend who saved him from attack when he finally awoke. Now, Snake’s former partner Kazuhira Miller is being held by the Soviet forces in Afghanistan. Snake must undertake a solo mission to rescue Miller and prove to the world that the legendary mercenary is not dead and gone. That first step will lead to a path of vengeance against the very Cipher that slaughtered so many of Snake’s men, and to a battle that will embroil the whole world... What started in Ground Zeroes... must finish with "V."
